Bomb blast at contractor's house

Imphal, March 14 2011:
A bomb hurled by suspected UGs exploded at the house of a contractor at Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai this evening around 6 pm.
Another failed bomb attacked was also carried out at the house a cashier of the Minor Irrigation Department.
The hand grenade hurled at the house of the contractor, Ngangom Ingocha (42) failed to inflict casualties as it felt into a pit at the courtyard of the house.
Apart from being a contractor, Ingocha also runs a jewellery shop in his house and at the time of blast, some some goldsmiths were working.
If the bomb happened to explode without falling into a pit, there could have been serious injuries to the goldsmiths, family members said.
Family members also said they had not received any monetary demands from UGs and was unaware of the motive behind the blast.
An unexploded hand grenade was found lying at the courtyard of the house of Moirangthem Mani of Kongpal Mutum Leikai in Imphal East, who is a cashier of the Minor Irrigation Department.
The bomb, which was suspected to have been hurled last night, was found lying on the ground this morning.
Personnel of the state police bomb disposal squad defused the bomb safely.
