Forest Minister invests in water conservation bodies, tree plantation drives

Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar has conveyed that numerous developmental activities are being taken up in different areas/villages of Andro AC including the establishment of water conservation bodies, from the MLA local area development fund, and mass tree plantation drives to keep the rapid climate change at bay.
A team of officials led by the Minister took up the initiative to clean Angtha Maning Leikai Pukhri Achouba along with Imphal Louri Pukhri in Huikap Mayai Leikai and convert them into water conservation bodies while a tree plantation drive was held at the surrounding areas of Nongpok Ningthou & Ema Panthoibi shrines.
Locals along with Meira Paibis and clubs from different villages of Angtha took part in the programme.
Speaking to media persons, Shyamkumar said that the drastic and unpredictable weather conditions faced in the State is rather unfortunate and the water conservation bodies along with the tree plantation drives will help in keeping these issues in check.
He lauded the locals for voluntarily taking part in the initiative and added that Angtha Maning Pat, Thambalnu Pat, Poiroi Pat and other areas can be transformed into water conservation bodies and expressed hope that it will help prevent water scarcity and drought in the State.
The Minister maintained that encroachment of lands which are meant for canals has become another big problem that needs to be solved.
