National Deworming Day to be launched today, Mission Director seeks support from all stakeholders

The second phase of National Deworming Day 2019 will be launched by Health Minister Jayantakumar at Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School in the presence of authorities from other Government Departments tomorrow while the Mop-Up Day will be conducted on August 8 .
Mission Director (NHM) Dr S Manikanta, while speaking to media persons at Health Directorate Lamphelpat today, has urged all to bring their children so that they don't miss the chance of deworming.
He maintained that, after the completion of the first phase of deworming on February 10, the second phase will be conducted tomorrow.
He stated that children from the age of 1 year to 2 years will be given 200 mg of Albendazole while 400gms of the tablet will be provide to children above 2 years.

The mop-up day will be conducted on August 8 for children (1 year to 19 years) who are left out from the deworming phase, he added.
For children from the age of 1 to 5 years, Manikanta said, necessary measures are being taken up to administer the tablet at Anganwadi centres while deworming for children from the age of 6 to 18 years will be taken place at the school level.
He further stated that, those who have attained 19 years are also included for deworming and since most of them attends college by this time, a representation has been submitted to the Directorate of Higher Education to ensure that majority of the 19 year old children are covered in the process.
The Mission Director urged Social Welfare Department, Education Department, PHED etc to extend cooperation and support in making the event a grand success.
He appealed the supervisors of Social Welfare Dept to cover at least 5 .
Anganwadi centres each and respective ZEOs of the Education Dept to direct the headmaster/Principal concerned to cover at least 4 to 5 centres.
He said for those who are reluctant of taking the deworming tablets, special teams have been formed to tackle any adverse reaction.
However, the Mission Director assured that there is no need to worry about adverse reaction as the tablet is very safe and the chances for occurrence of the reaction is quite low.
