Imphal, March 03 2013 :
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has drawn the attention of the Government of Manipur (GoM) to its 6(six)-point charter of demands including ensuring adequate staff and infrastructures in the educational institutes located in hill areas.
In a statement by its Secretary, Mikah Makei demanded to establish State Commission for Scheduled Tribe under the provision of Indian Constitution's 94th Amendment Bill-2002 Article 338A and BEd centers in hill areas as well as to consideration review of the reservation of SCs/STs promotions (order no 3/8/2008-Jr (MCS)DP dated 7th Dec 2012) .
It also recalled that ATSUM had submitted a petition to Chief Secretary on 27th November 2012, a memorandum to Chief Minister on 7th December 2012 and an ultimatum on 10th January 2013 over these demands.
However, government hasn't done anything tangible to implement the demands, ATSUM lamented, while warning of taking recourse to agitation again if the 'genuine demands' are not fulfilled' at the earliest possible.
