Imphal, August 02 2021:
While stating that failure to seal a final accord on the Framework Agreement (FA) signed between the NSCN-IM and the government of India (Gol) for the last six years has been creating confusion and apprehension among the various communities living in the state, United Committee Manipur (UCM) said the final accord, however, should not be detrimental to interest of the people of Manipur.
In a release, UCM IPR Leishemba Lamaba stated that even after the deletion of the words 'without territorial limit' from the ceasefire agreement signed between NSCN-IM and GoI following public uprising in 2001, people are still apprehensive as they are yet to see the final agreement in black and white.
There is a feeling of uncertainty among the people that the territorial integrity and administrative set of Manipur might be affected.
The failure to seal the final accord on 'Framework Agreement', signed with an aim to bring peace in NE region, has deepened apprehension and uneasiness of the people in Manipur.
As such, there is urgent need to settle the Naga political issue without harming the neighbouring states, he added.
UCM and people of Manipur have always supported peaceful solution but will not allow any agreement that might affect the territorial boundary and administrative structure of Manipur.
GOI should be conscious about the likes and dislikes of people of Manipur while finalising the Naga issue and should never undermine interest of the people.
Disregarding sentiments of the people will lead to unprecedented mass movement and create socio-political instability in the state, Lamaba cautioned, and urged the GoI to settle the issue surrounding Framework Agreement by accommodating views and sentiments of all the stakeholders.
