Heavy security for ADC by-poll, bandh underway

The Congress-led SPA government has initiated all measures and deployed heavy security for smooth conduct of the "highly sensitive by-polls" to the ADC in Chingai and Phabung Khullen constituency.
According to official sources, the district authorities of Ukhrul and Senapati have dispatched polling officials and security personnel to all the polling stations on Saturday.
Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R.Sudhan said the by-polls being declared "highly sensitive" all security arrangement has been taken to enable the public to exrcise their franchise.
He stated that two CRPF companies have been deployed in addition to the state security forces in the ten polling stations Chingai constituency, which will go to polls along with Phaibung Khullen on October 24 .
On the other hand, the UNC has pushed in its anti-ADC volunteers to all the polling stations to derail the hustings.
However, the district administrations in Senapati and Ukhrul have initiated measures to counter the intervention from the Naga bodies.
"The district authorities would follow the order from the state government and has come up with security plan," Sudhan said.
In the by-poll, 4475 voters will decide the fate in 17-Phaibung Khullen constituency of Senapati and 3969 voters for 13-Chingai constituency of Ukhrul district.
The counting will take place on October 31 either in Ukhrul district headquarters or Imphal.
Congress candidate Salouni and independent candidate Veini will be contesting for the seat in Phaibung Khullen.
Congress candidate Wilson Satshang and independent candidate N Ningtam will be contesting for the seat in Chirai.
Meanwhile, the three-day total blockade on the issue of "alternative arrangement" called by ANSAM has begun with effect from Friday midnight.
The bandh is incidentally timed with the ADC by-elections.
However, the electorates in the two constituencies are in the midst of election fever despite the boycott call by the Naga body.
