Eight Myanmarese nationals, who were staying in the city illegally, were arrested by the North Zone Task Force team and Government Railway Police in a joint operation on Thursday.
They were nabbed at Indiana Hotel at Bahadurpura in Old City.
According to Task Force DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy, the Myanmar nationals sneaked into the country by crossing the border at Ketiliya of Manipur and had been staying in the city for the last few years.
In view of the ensuing Ganesh and Ramzan Festivals, the Task Force teams have been conducting antisabotage checks at crowed places including railway stations, bus stands, shopping malls.
"While checking railway stations, we were coordinating with the Government Railway Police (GRP) which led to the arrest of the foreign nationals who were staying in the city since several years," the DCP said.
He said that the eight men had crossed a river in country boats to reach Manipur and paid between Rs 100 to Rs 150 to the persons who ferried them.
After entering Manipur, they took shelter at Ketiliya town for sometime.
"One Mohammed Anwar, who is also an illegal immigrant of Myanmar and came to Hyderabad about 15 years ago, resides in Kishanbagh, was encouraging illegal immigration.
He helped them settle in Kishanbagh.
All of them were working as labourers," Kamalasan Reddy said.
The accused who belong to various districts of Myanmar including Naqfura, Busidong, Boli Bazar, were handed over to Bahadurpura police station for necessary action under the Foreigners Act 1946 .
The accused are � Dil Mohammed (18), Noor Hussain (34) Mohammed Ali (22), Aziz-ur-Rahman (20), Abul Kalam (34), Abdul Razzak (30), Mohammed Hakeem (35) and Ali Johar (21) .
