Imphal, August 21 2009:
Decrying lack of development in Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has pointed out that although roads and bridges are the main constituents of infrastructure for development, the roads in the district are in deplorable condition.
In a statement signed jointly by its secretary Chunthuigai Kamei and finance secretary Thaingamlung Thaimei, the student body informed that the condition of the road from Lankhong to Bhalok (33 km long-stretch bifurcating from NH-53, which is also a short-cut to Tamenglong headquarters) has been inspected and found to be quite deplorable.
This is one of the worst roads ever constructed by PWD due to non-repairing and non-maintenance for the past many years, the statement said, while demanding termination of the incompetent and corrupt PWD officials concerned.
The maintenance of the IT road (between Dailong and Suanram) for which fund had been sanctioned for shingling is also not satisfactory, the student body said.
Informing about the inspection of schools by ZSUM executives, the statement conveyed that there are no teacher at Ahaning Primary School and only four teachers at Singhra Junior High School as against the actual requirement of 15 teachers.
