Imphal, May 11 2020:
Three prominent student organisations in Manipur have demanded mandatory testing for COVID-19 to all the people who come or return to Manipur.
On Monday evening, the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) issued a joint statement to Newmai News Network saying that they expressed their "heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all the frontliners and all the state government machinery "who have been tirelessly rendering efforts and services for the safety and well-being of the people during this trying time amidst the national lockdown to fight a global pandemic COVID-19" .
The three student organisations then asked the concerned authorities that there should be mandatory COVID-19 testing for everyone who comes or returns to the state.
"Otherwise it can be catastrophic," the statement cautioned.
The three bodies then demanded for immediate increment of the number of quarantine centres as it has become the the need of the hour.
"All the government schools and government recognised schools may be declared as quarantine centres by the state government," the three students' bodies suggested.
The joint statement then said that quarantine related budget and management should be given a top priority in order to ensure the safety of our community.
"Sufficient Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) should be allocated in all assembly constituencies," the three student bodies further demanded.
The ANSAM, the DESAM and the AIMS then urged all the communities living in the state to give their best cooperation to the state government in fighting to "save our community" from the pandemic.
