Imphal, May 11 2020:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has asked the State Government to come out with a clarification regarding the presence of NSCN-IM camps within the territory of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office today, UCM president Sunil Karam observed that hill people and plain people have been helping each other and the bond shared between the two has been further strengthened in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, reports about some Naga leaders extending relief materials to NSCN (IM)'s Huthrong Brigade at Senapati was published with photographs in media a few days back, Sunil said.
Ceasefire agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM is not effective in Manipur and this was officially announced by the Government of India on July 27, 2001 .
But the recent media report gives undeniable evidence that NSCN-IM has its camps in Manipur where the rebel outfit's ceasefire agreement with the Government of India is not effective, Sunil Karam remarked.
Questioning the State Government's position on the area covered by the ceasefire, the UCM president asked the State Government to come out with a clarification within two days about the course of action it would take after the presence of NSCN-IM camp within Manipur was published in media with photographic evidence.
Circulation of video clips and images of providing essential items by some Naga leaders to NSCN-IM at a location of Senapati district was highly provocative to all the people who believe in the idea of a united Manipur, Sunil Karam.
He also sought immediate attention of the Government of India into the issue.
