Imphal, May 11 2020:
With the train carrying 1140 Manipuri people which left Chennai last evening scheduled to arrive at Jiribam tomorrow afternoon, as many as 50 buses were flagged off for Jiribam from Langjing Achouba today to bring the returnees to their respective districts.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony which was jointly organised by Transport Department and TDC, Transport Director Mercina Panmei said that the train carrying 1140 Manipuri people would reach Jiribam tomorrow.

After completion of screening, the returnees would leave Jiribam at around 3 am of May 13 for their respective districts, Mercina said.
While appealing to all drivers and handymen to adhere to the guidelines laid down by TDC, the Transport Director said that necessary masks and hand sanitisers would be provided to all bus drivers and handymen.
Drivers and handymen engaged in bringing back stranded people from Jiribam to Imphal and other districts would be put under 'semi-quarantine' and they would not be allowed to go home, Mercina Panmei said.
The train journey from Chennai is the first phase and it is expected that similar trains would bring stranded Manipuri people from Punjab and Bangalore too, said the Transport Director.
For every train which arrives at Jiribam, 50 buses would be sent from Imphal.
As such, the State Government has been engaging 150 buses for the trains which are expected to bring stranded Manipuri people up to Jiribam, Mercina added.
TDC president H Ranjit said that they have arranged 50 other buses as there are reports about possible arrival of another train with stranded people at Jiribam in the next couple of days.
Just as drinking water, eatables and hand sanitisers were sent with the 50 buses flagged off today, similar items would be provided to buses which would be sent to Jiribam in the second and third phases, Ranjit said.
He then appealed to all drivers and handymen not to harbour any misplaced notion like they are transporting sick people.
