Imphal, April 10 2019:
Denouncing the inclusion of Citizenship Amendment Bill in the manifesto of BJP for the coming Lok Sabha elections, North East India Development Party (NEIDP) candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, RK Anand categorically stated that NEIDP understands the plight of the people and will oppose the contentious Bill.
Speaking to media persons at its office at Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak today, RK Anand said "It is quite unfortunate that the BJP decided to implement CAB if returns to power, disregarding all the protests and agitations launched by several CSOs, student bodies and the indigenous people of North-East recently" .

Saying that NEIDP is against the Bill, which seeks to 'wipe out' the indigenous people of North-East by granting citizenship to 6 non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, RK Anand conveyed that relation between mainland India and North-East States will deteriorate further if the Bill is reintroduced and passed forcefully.
Even the neighbouring States which have Inner Line Permit Systems are opposing the Bill vehemently as it would harm and bring a huge demographic change in the region, he said and added that the threat is far more greater in the State due to the absence of ILP system.
He also said that the remarks of several BJP leaders including Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding their decision to implement CAB are condemnable as they clearly show their disregard for the minority communities of the country.
He clarified that NEIDP is not associated with any National political parties like BJP, CPI or Congress.
The party is a regional party and is a platform for the indigenous people of the North-East, he said.
NEIDP president, Dr Ng Bijoy also questioned the comment - "CAB is logical", made by a 'spokesperson of one National political party' and asked if the spokesperson made the statement without studying the Bill at all.
He then challenged the spokesperson for a debate with him on the Bill which 'violates' the secular structure of the Constitution.
