TG students cry for blood of rapists

Outraged over the recent rape of a student of Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School on Monday last allegedly by a driver of Imphal West Police identified as Yumnam William along with Manipur digital film actor Thongam Tarun at Tampha, a restaurant, located at Ghari, Airport Road, students of the school demonstrated in front of their school gate today.
Meanwhile, the accused in the rape case were produced before the court of CJM, Imphal West today which subsequently remanded them further to police custody for five days.
Yumnam William has also been put under suspension by the SP of Imphal West District Police.
Exerting pressure on the Home Minister to punish the culprits, the agitating students also stopped vehicles from plying in front of the Raj Bhavan for about 15 minutes.
However, Deputy Superintendent of police Ibomcha rushed in and took control of the situation.

Around 5 student leaders later submitted a memorandum to Manipur Home Minister, Gaikhangam with the ultimatum that the government should give befitting punishment to the culprits within 5 days from the date of submission of the ultimatum, and help the victim in all possible ways.
Bidyarani, General Secretary of TG Higher Secondary School Students' Union said that if the state government fails to take up necessary actions against the culprits within the stipulated deadline, they would be compelled to launch another agitation until the demands are met.
On the other hand, Joint Co-Ordination Committee (JSCC), an apex body of six students organizations -Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), Democratic students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Students Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) and Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has taken serious note over burgeoning incidents of rapes and crimes committed against young girls recently and strongly urged for justice, appropriate punishment and capital punishment to all culprits as deterrent measure in the light of the recent development of unprecedented violence and rapes unleashed against women, especially, the Khoupum rape case, rape and killing of Catherine at Chandel district and the TG Higher Secondary school's victim.
At a press conference at the office of DESAM here today, Convener of JSCC Longjam Umakanta demanded that exemplary punishment should be given to the culprits.
