Water to be channelled through canals under Loktak Lift Irrigation, says MPCB Chairman

In a bid to provide irrigation to the numerous fields which are begin affected by the lack of rainfall, MLA L Radhakishore, who is also the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, has said that water will be channelled through the canals under the Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI).
He made the statement during an event concerning distribution of honorarium (from the month of October to December last year) to 50 rice agents of Oinam Kendra, at his quarter at State Guest House, Sanjenthong today.
Speaking at the event, MLA Radhakishore said that the people are getting concerned regarding the crops and products of the State as the rainfall till now has been insufficient.
Assuring that the State Government is working towards solving the problems faced by the people, the MLA said that the Government is trying to provide water through the canals under LLI at Bishnupur district, which has been lying defunct for around 30 years now.
He explained that with the pump house no 1, Ningthoukhong to Thinungei areas have been provided water by the low level canal of Moirang.
Plans are being made to provide water similarly from Ningthoukhong to Uripok, Tabokpi, Potshangbam, Nachu and Khoijuman, he said, explaining that the said canal is around 96 kilometres long and even if there is no rain, the water can be channelled from the Loktak Lake and then used for irrigation in the areas touched by the canal.
The MLA continued that tomorrow, a trial run at Imphal main canal to Langthabal Phua Makhong from pump house no 1 will be carried out and on the other hand, pump house no 2 (at the so called Imphal high level canal) will send water till Loitang Khunou.
On the other hand, Radhakishore claimed that there is no shortage of NFSA rice in the State and added that 80 percent of the people in Bishnupur who are entitled for NFSA rice have got their share and the remaining people will be given their rice after necessary surveys with the help of the Pradhans, ZPs, village chief, Meira Paibis etc.
For Oinam Kendra, 400 people will be given NFSA cards, he announced.
The MLA then appealed to the people to inform him if their rice quota is not received.
A total of Rs 15,54,338.50 were handed over as honorarium for the 50 agents during the event, which was also attended by DSO Bishnupur A Gopendro Sharma and Inspector Sh Singhajit.
