Guwahati/Imphal, June 29 2020:
The Biosciences and Biotechnology Department at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (or IITG), has said that they detected immunomodulatory properties, anti-viral and anti-tumour effects on CC Tea.
In a statement, Associate Professor, IIT Guwahati, Dr Sachin Kumar said that CC Tea has entered into a one-year research collaboration with IIT Guwahati to further advance this breakthrough discovery to develop advanced therapeutic in three core areas - namely, immunomodulatory effect, anti-viral and anti-tumour properties, and product development.
The research team at a viral immunology laboratory at IIT Guwahati conducted several studies on CC Tea's immunomodulatory and anti-viral properties.
It was revealed that CC Tea has potent anti-viral compounds.
The test was conducted using the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) and Influenza virus as a model to test its anti-viral and immunomodulatory effects of CC Tea.
The preliminary test showed that it is anti-JEV and anti-influenza, he added.
Saying that CC Tea has also shown positive responses in boosting the innate immunity, Dr Sachin Kumar said that there is ample scope for research in this area as a lot of herbs are being used as traditional medicines for the treatment of various diseases for generations.
When asked about the recent development, Ragesh Keisham, Chairman & CEO, CC Tea, said that CC Tea is unique with multiple health benefits.
Expressing happiness that their belief is validated by IIT, Guwahati, Ragesh said that he is privileged to have collaborated with IIT, Guwahati.
