Water Resources Minister inspects banks of Jiri river

Jiribam, September 20 2018:
Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip inspected banks of Jiri river at Jiribam on Wednesday afternoon.
The department will consider construction of retaining walls on the Manipur side of the river in the near future, he said.
It may be mentioned that Jiri river is the only river that runs through the newly-created Jiribam district, and it remains an important river as it marks the boundary between Manipur and its neighbouring State Assam.
The field inspection was also joined by Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, TD Minister N Kayisi and Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin.
Chief Engineer of WR Department Ksh Pritam and many other top officials of the department were also present in the inspection.
The team first went to Leingangpokpi area of the district and later to Ningshing Khun.
In addition to inspection of rivers in the said two areas, the team also stop-by at the district Water Resources Office at Leinganpokpi to take stock of the condition of the office premises and its functioning.
Observing vulnerable parts of the bank of the Jiri river, Letpao said that the department will do its level best to build retaining walls to protect the vulnerable portions of the river from further erosion.
The Ministers were in Jiribam since the last three days for inauguration of Imphal - Jiri Helicopter service and others by Chief Minister N Biren.
The three Ministers left Jiribam for Imphal by road today.
