Our ecosystems contain a vast array of life forms, which help in maintaining the ecological balance necessary for the survival of mankind.
Despite the varied pressures of modernisation and development, we have protected our wildlife recourses through policies and programmes that have resulted in notable successes, such as an increase in the population of various species, including the tiger, elephant and rhinoceros.
This has been possible only due to the positive involvement of all stake holders in our conservation effort" .
"Along with these efforts, we also need to create a mass movement to generate awareness of our wildlife heritage.
On the occasion of Wildlife Week, let us all, therefore, pledge to put in our best efforts to protect the habitats of our wildlife and rededicate ourselves to the noble cause of Wildlife protection", the Prime Minister exhorted.
