Imphal, August 06, 2012:
The breakage on the right portion of Khuga Dam in Manipur's south district Churachandpur would be restored to its normal condition and it may take about a week's time, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip said today.
The ministed accompanied by engineers and other officials of IFCD Department conducted an inspection visit to the dam whose canal on the right portion has been breached about ten fit.
The portion of the canal was collasped around 2:30 a.m.yesterday.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the visit, minister Haokip said the breakage would do no harm on the surrounding paddy fields and that the concerned officials have been instructed to take up immediate restoration work which may take about a week's time.
Although the canal is the only source of water for the vast paddy fields nearby after deficient rainfall this season, the farmers in the area are panicking over a possible overflow of water from the canal and flood the paddy fields which may lead to crop failure.
