Imphal, April 03 2012:
With former MPCC President Gaikhangam lately sworn in as the new Home Minister of the state, uncertainty reigns within Congress party over who should be elected to the post.
Disclosing this to Hueiyen Lanpao, a reliable source in Congress pointed out that since there is a standing rule of "one man one post" in the party, no single person can hold two posts at the same time.
Considering this, Gaikhangam has already approached the Congress High Command to make known his desire for resigning from the post of President of MPCC.
However, the Congress High Command has not given their approval and asked Gaikha-ngam to continue as the President for some time.
Gaikhangam had also taken up the matter with All India Congress Committee (AICC) pointing out that since Manipur is a trouble torn state with numerous issues, he has a pivotal role to play as the Home Minister and continuing with the post of President of MPCC would complicate the problems in the state.
At present, AICC is also in a dilemma as to who should be appointed to the post of MPCC President.
The AICC had earlier called for suggestion from Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Home Minister Gaikha-ngam in this regard.
With expansion of the Ibobi Ministry in the offing, none of the Congress MLAs are really concerned about the issue of MPCC chief post.
Instead, they are trying their best to lobby for Ministerial berths.
