A YOUTH awareness camp cum sport meet, 2009 was kicked off at Phadang village in Tamei sub-division of Tamenglong district yesterday.
A play ground was also inaugurated there on the same day.
The president of the Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM), N Rajendro (Boi) who graced the inaugural function as chief guest said that without work culture and having own income generating means, "We will not able to achieve freedom".
He said, the state could not stand on its own and depend on others in every aspect.
People face hardships when economic blockade is imposed on the highways connecting the state with other states.
This is the clear example of the state depending on others.
"So if we produce our needs and have sound economy, we can achieve our freedom," he observed.
People should inform the government on the problems faced by them.
Different communities of the state are voicing only for their respective communities but they do not cry for developmental programmes by the government.
He also said that the ICHAM has been endeavouring to highlight the grievances of the people so as to reach the ear of the government through the media by touring nook and corner of the state.
But the same could not be taken up successfully without the help of the people, he added.
"This will help also help a lot in bringing peace and development in the state," he said.
It is encouraging to organize such event as a part of remembering Zeliangrong leader Dikeao.
"There have many leaders like him among us," he said adding that memorial sites of some of leader and historic places like the Haipou Jadonang park and Mayang Khang, Manipur's last line of control on the north leaders are developing.
This can also attract tourists, a lot.
General secretary of Nagaland's People Front Hupun who attended as guest of honour on the occasion said that in the sport meet here many sports persons from his state Nagaland are also participating and as Manipur government is yet to recognize the Phadang village, he will insist concern authorities to mend up the shortest in the village.
During the awareness programme, project manager of the Lifeline Foundation A Pitar and N Prithviraj talked on the HIV/AIDS and how to protect from it as resource persons.
Three officers of the state sport department also took part in the inauguration function of the sport meet and play ground.
