Imphal, February 13 2019:
Despite lauding the eventual lapse of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 due to the intense pressure from the people, the six students bodies of the State, namely AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA, SUK and AIMS, have stated that they will continue to carry on democratic forms of agitation until and unless the Bill is completely withdrawn.
Speaking to media persons, Manjit Sarangthem, president of AMSU, questioned why the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh did not move for complete withdrawal of the Bill in the Rajya Sabha floor.
It is imperative for the State Government to pressure the Central Government to completely withdraw the Bill, he added.
As there is still apprehension among the people of the State and the North East that the Bill might get passed as an ordinance, the students bodies, along with the people, will carry on democratic forms of agitation in the future until and unless the Bill is completely withdrawn, he said.
