Ukhrul, April 24 2012:
The Northern Raphei Students' Union (NRSU) has appealed to the Manipur government to pay ex-gratia to the injured VDF personnel who was beaten up and abducted along with five other Jessami villagers recently during the skirmish along Manipur-Nagaland border.
In a press state issued on Tuesday, NRSU demanded that the Government of Manipur pay adequate compensation to the VDF personnel who was beaten up by the Village Guard of Nagaland while he was on duty along with Jessami SDPO.
Condemning the unfortunate incident that occurred on April 18, the NRSU stated that Jessami people never frisked Nagaland-bound vehicles which pass through their village, and added that the villagers did not have any retaliatory intention.
."Jessami village...never looks for revenge but for an amicable solution to the issue so that the age old good relationship between the brethren villages of Jessami and Meluri will be restored again," it maintained.
"The dispute between Jessami and Meluri village is not a case of Manipur-Nagaland boundary dispute but a case of traditional village boundary dispute.
Therefore we appeal for not fuelling the situation further", the statement added.
Meanwhile, the NRSU expressed appreciation to both the Manipur and Nagaland government for controlling the situation at Jessami and Meluri from further aggravation.
It also expressed gratitude to the District administration of Ukhrul and Phek for their timely and judicious intervention.
The body also thanked Chingai A/C MLA Preshaw Shimray for making personal visit to the disputed area and taking stock of the situation.
