Tamenglong, June 08, 2013:
It was a milestone in the history of the District Hospital, Tamenglong that a mega surgical operation camp under the initiative of JNIMS, Health and District Administration of Tamenglong was conducted successfully at its newly inaugurated Operation Theatre.
The operation theatre was inaugurated by Janghemlung Panmei, MLA of 53 -Tamenglong AC on 5th June 2013 in the presence of C.Arthur W, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong and Dr.Chambo Gonmei, CMO, Tamenglong.
Starting since yesterday, a team of surgeons, gynecologists, nurses and paramedical staffs from JNIMS, Porompat conducted the mega operation camp, which concluded today.
Altogether 12 major and 10 minor cases were successfully performed.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Dr.Chambo Gonmei, CMO of Tamenglong, informed that out of the 12 major operations, four are related to cases of LUCS, 1 to Cholecystectomy, 2 to Hydrocele and 5 others to inguinal & umbilical hernia.
Dr Chambo explained that the main objective of carrying out the Mega Surgical Camp at the District HQ Tamenglong was to reach out to the poor and underprivileged people of this remote district, where many people are deprived of surgical intervention in the District Hospital.
"Many people are being referred to Imphal and elsewhere for further treatment as there is not a single specialist doctor posted and with no proper infrastructure in the District Hospital.
Deaths, which could be prevented, are occurring now and then due to lack of necessary infrastructure such as Blood Bank and non-functioning of OT.
On top of this, poor road communication and long distance of 150 km distance from Tamenglong to Imphal has compounded the problems of the people," the CMO added.
"But today we can see the light end of the tunnel", Dr Chambo Gonmei said with a smile on his face.
With right political leadership and administrative commitment, many developmental works and programmes could be carried out to reach the unreached areas and save the lives of many poor and sick people living in the interior parts of Tamenglong district, he noted.
Dr Chambo also informed that presently there are 21 MBBS Medical Officers in Tamenglong District, but there is still acute shortage of other paramedical staffs, and drew the attention of the State Government for doing the needful for ensuring smooth functioning of the District Hospital.
