Imphal, June 02 2013:
Passenger bus service along National Highway No.150 stretch of Ukhrul District Headquarters and Jessami has remained suspended since March this year due to pathetic condition of the road.
The people of Ukhrul district are now facing serious problems due to suspension of the bus service.
The people of this area suffer even more whenever there is some medical emergency.
However, some taxis operating along this route still could not fill up the gap in public transport.
An aged man from Jessami Village told Hueiyen Lanpao that Jessami lies at a distance of about 116 kilometres from Ukhrul District Headquarters and about 98 kilometres from Siroy.
One Bolero and two Maxx jeeps are operating along Siroy-Jessami Road, he noted.
The condition of the road was somehow good when a team of 84 RCC GREF was posted at Jessami in between 2005 and 2006.But the condition of road has worsened drastically after the departure of the GREF team, the man informed.
The blacktop of the road has faded away and there are large potholes in the middle of the road thereby causing serious disturbance to plying of vehicles along this route.
A police personnel posted at Jessami said that the police team comprising both civil and VDF is facing lots of problems due to bad condition of Ukhrul-Jessami road.
Besides such poor roads and bridges, Jessami also lacks in proper water supply and healthcare facilities.
The villagers have drawn the attention of the authorities concerned to solve the problem of scarcity of water by laying pipelines up to a gorge located at about 15 kilometres from the village from where water could be tapped.
The health centre located in the village is also not functioning properly with shortage of staffs and infrastructure.
In such a situation, the villagers of Jessami often go to Nagaland for medical treatment.
The PHC recently inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister is also in bad shape with no proper wall fencing and toilets.
The people of this border village have drawn the attention of the State Government towards the development of their basic amenities.
