MMWO extends solidarity, stands firm against any threat to State

Imphal, October 22 2019: Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has announced that the association along with the Meitei Pangal community will stand fast and fully cooperate in any initiative which is taken up if there is a threat to the integrity of Manipur in any way.

Speaking to media persons at MMWO office at Hatta today, its president Abdullah Phundreimayum said that the statement by Nagaland Governor RN Ravi that the peace talk between NSCN (IM) and the Government of India will reach a definitive conclusion on October 31, has created an atmosphere of uncertainty and apprehension among the people of Manipur.

The people and numerous CSOs have always demanded for the stakeholders to be involved if in any case the peace talk would harm Manipur.

MMWO even sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs in August in this regard, he said, adding that, however, despite just a few days left until the reported deadline of the peace talk coming to a close, neither the stakeholders nor the State Government of Manipur seem to have been consulted.

This has led to suspicion and doubts in the minds of the people, he claimed, warning against any form of impact to the integrity of Manipur as a result of the peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India.

MMWO and Meitei Pangal will not compromise in anyway when it comes to the integrity of the State, he declared.

He further condemned the suspicious nature of the Central Government in this issue as it has failed to provide any form of transparent details to the public.

He continued that MMWO, since August 25, went from various location to location settled by the Meitei Pangals so as to spread awareness regarding this critical issue and added that MMWO and the Meitei Pangal will not remain silent if the State is threatened.

He stated that MMWO lauds the formation of Committee On Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) formed by UCM, AMUCO, CCSK, HERICOUN and LIPUN.

He then alleged that it is not believable that the Central Government will take any action which will not affect Manipur and pointed towards the example of scrapping Article 370 from Kashmir.

He also appealed to all to remain ever alert.
