Bomb blast near IRB camp, another neutralized

Imphal, January 27 2013 :
Unidentified miscreants triggered a bomb near the IRB camp at Wangbal along National Highway -2 under Thoubal district yesterday.
No casualty was reported in the blast.
The incident took place at around 9 am yesterday while the function of Republic Day celebration for Thoubal district was about to begin at the nearby Basu Ground, Khangabok.
As soon as the report of the blast reached, police cordoned the area and conducted an extensive search operation.
However, no suspect could be apprehended.
Meanwhile, a bomb was found planted near Khonghampat High School area along NH-2 under Sekmai Police Station, this morning at around 10 am.
The bomb was come across by a passerby who reported the matter to the police.
Along with a team of bomb disposal squad, Sekmai Police arrived at the spot and defused the bomb safely at a nearby paddy field.
However, PRO Assam Rifles claimed that troops of 30 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) detected the bomb which was an IED and averted a mishap.
A foot-patrol of 30 Assam Rifles observed a suspected bag lying near Khonghampat High School astride along NH-2 and the troops sprung into immediate action with explosive detection dog.
The explosive detection dog confirmed the suspected package to be an explosive.
The bomb disposal team arrived and neutralized the IED.
