Ukhrul, September 26 2013:
The 17-km road from Phangrei Zero Point to Khamasom Khawangkho constructed under the Central Road Fund (CRF) is in deplorable state due to failure of the concerned authorities in supervising the over Rs 3 crore project.
In an interaction with media persons, chief functionaries of Yang Raphei Conference (YRC) said the CRF sponsored road project, which covers seven villages in the northern border areas of Ukhrul district, has not been completed and the condition has been rendered un-motorable.
"Without completing the road construction, the work agencies have illegally withdrawn the money in connivance with the officials of concerned department.
There was no proper official inspection of the road and it is lying incomplete," they alleged.
The YRC functionaries pointed out that the official work order at an estimated cost over Rs 3-crore was issued on July 19, 2005 and the project begun shortly afterwards untill the expiry of the contractor.
The work was then undertaken by another agency, but failed to complete the road that connects Sihai Khunou, Sihai Khullen, Sihai Kahaophung, Khamasom Wailelley, Khamasom Phungthar, Khamasom Phungreia and Khamasom Khayangkho.
The 17-km CRF project was reported to have been taken up on the basis of inter-state economic importance, and also aims to connect with Meluri town in Nagaland.
The organisation rued that the state government has neglected the centrally-funded project, and owing to its negligence the economically significant road has been reduced to pathetic state.
It also informed that the state government has released additional fund of approximately Rs.88-lakh from Special Plan Assistance (SPA) in 2007 .
"In spite of additional fund released under SPA, the project shows no progress," YRC functionaries rued.
Public in the areas are now in difficult situation as road, which are partially done with singling, has badly damaged by monsoonal rain.
The organisation has urged the authorities to immediately look into the work and initiate measures to complete the CRF project.
