Police have recovered the head of Gandhiji's statue that went missing after the act of vandalism committed in the wee hours of April 15 by some miscreants, who are now cooling their heels in Ukhrul police station.
On Wednesday afternoon, the recovered statue's head was presented before the media in the official chamber of Ukhrul Superintendent of Police K Kabib who informed that it was retrieved from the office premises of Public Work Department at 8.30am today.

Giving a pat on the shoulders of three police teams comprising Ukhrul SDPO Luther Nungsha, Ukhrul OC H Timothy and Investigating Officer (IO) PW Sharai, the SP said the breakthrough came about due to relentless efforts of the teams.
As the investigation is still underway, police said the details regarding the antecedents that led to the vandalism could not be revealed altogether and serious effort has been put in place to apprehend the absconding person.
The four accused will be produced in the CJM court on April 27 .
The SP said there is no much impact on the statue's head except for some minor damages.
The memorial statue-the universal symbol of Non-Violence, was erected on May 3, 1986 at Gandhi Chowk, opposite the Town Hall in the heart of Ukhrul town.
