Candidates may now witness photo verification process

The verification and comparison of the photographs of electorates taken during the time of casting their votes in the recently held State Assembly election with those in the Electoral Rolls for all the sixty Assembly Constituencies would be conducted in the presence of three Special Observers deputed by the Election Commission of India at the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur at Lamphelpat.
According to a notification served by the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur, all complainants and contesting candidates in the 10th General Election to the Manipur State Legislative Assembly can also be present during the photo comparison process.
The photo verification will be carried out in the presence of three Special Observers namely Sunil Gupta, CEO, West Bengal; DK Pandey, IPS, CRPF, Ranchi and Gaurav Dwivedi, IAS, Director, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Technology, New Delhi, said the notification.
It is said that during the verification process, photo electoral rolls and photographs such polling stations where specific complaints have been received by the Commission and forwarded to CEO, Manipur and Returning Officers concerned would be compared.
