Students demand immediate arrest of culprit (s)

Imphal, July 06 2018:
Decrying the hit and run case which led to the death of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) vice-president Ningthoujam Jugeshwor and demanding immediate arrest of the culprit(s) involved in the case, a large number of students staged human-chain protests in different parts of Imphal East district today.
Students of Royal Academy of Science, Pioneer Academy and International Modernise Academy organised human chain protest at Andro Parking area.
Students of Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School and Sangai Higher Secondary School staged protest at Sangakpham while students of RK Sanatombi Devi and Hundred Flowers protested at Pangei road.
During the demonstration, the students shouted slogans like "We want justice" and "Book Jugeshwor's murderer (s) immediately." MSF vice-president, Ningthoujam Jugeshwor along with MSF joint secretary, Anand Elangbam were hit by a four wheeler in front of ISBT, Khuman Lampak while they were travelling on a two wheeler (Bullet) on the evening of June 22.The car sped away and the two injured MSF's executive were treated at Raj Medicity.
On June 25, Jugeshwor succumbed to his injuries.
Speaking to media persons, MSF general secretary, Heisnam Okendro said that the failure to arrest the culprit(s) till date seems like the Government is trying to protect the killer(s) .
He lambasted the State police for their negligence in investigating the case and for being unable to recover some CCTV footage of the street where the incident took place.
Urging the Government to arrest the culprit(s) at the earliest, the general secretary threatened to launch different forms of agitation until the culprit(s) are arrested and punished.
Moreover the family members of Jugeshwor will never claim his body unless the culprits) are booked, added Okendro.
Meanwhile, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Yaralpat Alumni Association announced their stand to fully support the agitation taken up by the JAC against the killing of Ningthoujam Jugeshwor and other associations.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the association's finance secretary, Th Shashikumar said that the association, along with JNV Alumni Association, Manipur, will organise a mass rally soon, from Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai which will conclude at the locality of late Jugeshwor.
He appealed to all the students and the pubic to support and take part in the said rally.
In connection with the incident, the State police had formed a SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate the case and currently investigation is in process.
