Over 1 lakh bags of Urea fertilizer distributed: Minister

Agriculture Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh informed that a total of 1,78,093 bags of urea fertilizers have, so far, been distributed to the farmers of the state through the Department of Agriculture.
Briefing media persons at his Office at Old Secretariat on Monday, Minister Lukhoi ruled out possibility of shortage of fertilizers in the state and urged the farmers to avail the fertilizers through the District Agriculture Officers (DAOs) by furnishing requisite documents.
He stated that the urea fertilizers are given to the farmers at a subsidized rate of Rs 266.80 per 145 kg.
It is clearly mentioned in Clause 3 (3) of the Fertilizer (Control) Order 1985 that no dealer, manufacturer or pool handling agency shall sell or offer for sale any fertilizers at a price exceeding the maximum price or rate fixed under this clause, he added.
As per the Fertilizer (Control) Order 1985, only registered certificate/license holders can carry out the sale of fertilizer, Lukhoi explained and stated that the department has been strictly monitoring sale of fertilizers so that those found indulging in unethical trade practices are taken to task.
The minister also stressed the need for the department officials and staff members to maintain transparency during distribution of fertilizers to the farmers saying it is the sole responsibility of the government to always work for the welfare of farmers of the state.
Lukhoi also conveyed gratitude to Farmers Group for their constructive ideas and suggestions.
