Imphal, April 17 2012:
All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) observed the 32nd Realisation Day in memory of the sacrifice made by students community in particular and the people of the state in general, during the anti-foreigner agitation, along with offering rich floral tributes at the martyrs' complex located atop Pishum Chingamacha today.
Students from various schools of the state, government and private employees, volunteers of Civil Society Organisations, Meira Paibis and families and friends of the two martyred students (Potshangbam Premananda and Huidrom Lokendro) paid floral tributes at the martyrs' memorial complex.
Afterward, public meeting was held at the nearby Hao Ground with
Former Presidents of AMSU Lourembam Dilip, Th Suresh and LC Somoprendro as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.

But the state government has not taken up any step in this regard.

The Inner Line Permit (ILP) is yet to be re-imposed in the state.
This clearly indicates that there is no governance at all in Manipur.
He further said that the anti-foreigner agitation launched by AMSU in 1980 was primarily to protect the identity and integrity of the indigenous people of the state.
Some of the then volunteers of AMSU have now been elected as MLAs.
It is time that AMSU to resume its agitation with the help of these MLAs and compelled the state government to re-impose ILP in Manipur.
Delivering the Presidential speech, Th Suresh said that the act of the state government in dealing with the agitations of the public over ILP or AFSPA is very unfortunate.
The problem of illegal migrants would not have risen if the then government had re-imposed ILP as soon as the agitation started.
Social activist RK Ranendrajit, speaking on the occasion said that the situation in Manipur is getting from bad to worse now as influx of illegal migrants is increasing due to the lack of an effective means to check them.
For the last many years, the people of Manipur have been kept under the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958, thus resulting in loss of lives of many of our brothers and sisters.
After the meeting, a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur demanding immediate implementation of the understanding arrived at between R.K.Dorendro Singh, the then Chief Minister of Manipur, M.Kumar Singh, the then minister of PHED & Sports, who represented the Manipur government and the students representatives of AMSU at the office of the Chief Minister on July 22 and August 5, 1980 as well as the agreement signed between KK Sethi, the then Chief Secretary of Government of Manipur and Naorem Mohilal, then President of AMSU on Nov 9, 1994 .
The memorandum also demanded an appropriate policy for recruitment both in public and private sectors to curb unwanted influx of immigrants, and implementation of the ILP system so as to regulate the entry of migrants.
As part of the observance, a blood donation camp was also organized by AMSU at RIMS, where the volunteers of AMSU donated their blood.
