Imphal, April 17 2012:
Offering fitting floral tributes to the portraits of the two departed students, unfurling of AMSU's flag, and a blood donation camp marked the 32nd Realisation Day organised by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) today.
Two students, Potshangbam Lukhoi (Premananda) and Huidrom Loken were killed by the security forces on this day in 1980 during an agitation spearheaded by AMSU against the unrestrained influx of migrants from outside the State.
Floral tributes were offered this morning at the memorial site of the two students located at Singjamei Pishum Chingamacha.
The Realisation Day was also observed today at Pishum Hao Ground with a function.
L Dilip, ex-president of AMSU; Th Suresh incumbent president of AMSU, and L Somorendro graced the observance programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, L Dilip said that AMSU had envisioned thirty years back that the migrant population would outnumber the indigenous people's population if the migration of people in the State is not checked.
However, the Government turned a blind eye to the issue.

He said, the migrants population has now increased unprecedentedly.
The indisposition of the Government to implement the Inner Line Permit system to control the random migration shows its lack of will to protect the indigenous people from extinction, Dilip said.
Dilip asserted that the people's representatives need to be sensitised on the issue of ILP.
Th Suresh mused that the problem of migrants influx would not have come up now had the Government implemented the ILP system several years back.
Pointing out that citizens from the North East including Manipur were asked to produce their passport by the police or attestation/domicile certificate is required in order to rent a room in cities in the mainland, the people of mainland India come and settle without any restriction from the Government.
A blood donation camp was also held at RIMS in connection with the Realisation Day observance.
