World Diabetes Day observed at Kangpokpi

As part of the worldwide observation of World Diabetes Day (WDD), Kangpokpi also joined the observance and highlighted the importance of the day to its people.
Walkathon (500 metres from Nute Kailhang at Downtown IT Road to District Hospital, Kangpokpi) was also held as part of the observance, organized by National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD and Stroke (NPCDCS) under NCD Cell, Kangpokpi district.
Personnel of Block Project Management Units (BPMU), ASHA facilitators and ASHAs of all institutions under Kangpokpi district as well as student community from various educational institutions within Kpi DHQs including local civil bodies' leaders took part in the walkathon.
The World Diabetes Day-2018 under the theme, "The Family and Diabetes" was held at conference hall, District Hospital, Kangpokpi in the presence of Kangpokpi Town Committee Chairman, Lunseh Kipgen as guest of honour.
Newly posted CMO Dr Kimneng Misao, who is also the District Mission Director attended the event as functional president while Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate, District Malaria Officer attended as resource person.
Medical Superintendent in-charge, District Hospital, Kangpokpi, Dr Paotinlal Haokip and other medical officers and staff also attended the event.
"The aim of World Diabetes Day 2018 theme is to elevate awareness about the impact of diabetes on the family and provide a supportive network to those who are affected by diabetes.
The idea is to promote role of family in management, prevention, care and education of diabetes," said Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate.
While stressing the escalating health threat posed by diabetes among the people, the resource person also informed the gathering about the signs, symptoms, risks and complications of diabetes.
According to Dr Paotinlal Haokip, there are almost 100 diabetes patients registered in NCD Cell Kangpokpi so far.
They all have been issued NCD Card for regular check up and advice.
The district has a total of 404 diabetes patients registered, of which 170 are male and 204 female.
KTC chairman, Lunseh Kipgen and DMD/CMO Kangpokpi, Dr Kimneng Misao also spoke on the occasion.
