Imphal, February 07, 2012:
Claiming that Wahengbam Jayenta s/o W Heitomba of Kumbi Kangjeibung Mapal who was killed in a reported encounter with security forces near Don Bosco School, Phayeng yesterday was an innocent person, a joint action committee formed in connection with the killing has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister alleging that security forces might have first arrested Jayenta before shooting him dead.
Jayenta was staying in a rented house at Sayang Kurao Makhong for the last three/four years together with his three children who are reading in Ramlal Paul Hr Sec School, Little Flower School and Kid Foundation, Imphal.
According to the memorandum, Jayenta went to Takyel to hand over a sum of Rs 30,000 for buying sand and stone for construction of a toilet of his brother Wahengbam Priyo of Sagolband Thingom Leikai yesterday.
When his wife called him through phone at about 9 am to leave off the children at their schools, Jayenta informed that he had been arrested by armed persons.
In the next moment, Jayenta's mobile phone was suddenly switched off.
Even though the family members searched for Jayenta at different places of Imphal the whole day, he could not be located.
His wife again called him through mobile phone at about 4 pm but she was asked to make no more calls.
Finally, a complaint was lodged at Imphal Police Station at about 7 pm.
Strongly contending that Jayenta was an innocent who was taking care of his school going children at Imphal, the JAC urged upon the Chief Minister to look into the matter and do the needful.
