Imphal, July 08 2011:
The house of an elderly man has been destroyed by agitated locals last night on the charge of outraging the modesty of a teenage girl, who not only lives next-door but is also closely related to the accused person.
The incident occurred at Sagolband Meino Leirak Meisnam Nongthombam Leikai when the victim girl after prolonged silence narrated her ordeal of 54-year old Yumnam Rajen (54) committing the crime, to her mother and grand-mother.
It is said that the victim girl is the accused person's niece (daughter of Rajen's brother in-law).
She has been admitted at the Psychiatric Ward of RIMS Hospital tonight apparently due to her traumatic experience.
As destruction of the house began late last night Rajen managed to evade the wrath of the infuriated locals by surrendering to the police.
Dismantling of the house continued this morning in addition to a public meeting resolving to rusticate the entire family of Rajen from the locality for lifetime.

In addition to deciding that sale/purchase of Rajen's homestead should have the knowledge of the locals, the meeting also resolved to prevail upon authorities concerned to take stringent punitive action against the perpetrator.
according to the 15-year old victim, in January this year Rajen asked for her company for a certain work at Imphal but took her to a hotel room located in MG Avenue where the crime was committed.
As Rajen tried to rape her, the girl raised an alarm but was gagged with a stern warning not to reveal the incident, she said while adding her uncle followed her from the hotel room till they reached home together.
It is said that as Rajen maintained a close watch on the girl even after the incident, she resolutely decided to narrate the ordeal first to her grand-mother and then to her own mother yesterday as Rajen reportedly followed her when she went to meet her mother, who had been staying at her maternal home also located in the same locality.
