Irked over the alleged failure of Aircel to activate national roaming facility, a legal notice has been served on the leading mobile service provider of the region.
The legal notice was dispatched by Advocate L Akham Kom, on behalf of Salam Rupachandra, also a legal practitioner and a social worker, to four key functionaries of Aircel including its Chief Executive Officer (North and East Zone), Chennai through registered post today.
The notice asked as to why the Aircel authorities should not be sued for negligence and deficiency of service to the customer.
According to the notice, Rupachandra applied for a post paid mobile connection with national roaming facilities from Aircel which he got in December last year.
An Aircel staff working at its Khuyathong office urged
Rupachandra to cancel the roaming facility to avoid undue billing if roaming facility was not available through his connection,
and that re-connection/activation could be done without any deposit within 48 hours, mentioned the notice adding that Rupachandra submitted his application for cancellation of his yet to be activated roaming facility in February this year.
As he was going to Kanpur to receive a life time achievement award during the 17th South Asian Friendship camp, Rupachandra applied to the Khuyathong office of Aircel to re-activate national roaming facility on February 12.However, the mobile service provider failed to activate the facility causing serious inconvenience to the customer while he was away from the State.
When one Advocate, on behalf of Rupachandra enquired about the nonactivation, the Aircel staff said that the customer should deposit Rs 1000 for re-activation.
The same had already been deposited for obtaining national roaming facility, said the notice.
After returning to Imphal, Rupachandra enquired about the matter at Cell City on February 2 to which the Aircel staff said that Rs 1000 deposited initially for roaming facility was adjusted with security deposit.
If explicit reasons are not furnished to Advocate Akham Kom or his client within 15 days from the date of receipt of the notice, the Aircel authorities will be sued for the damages done to the customer, concluded the notice.
