Hundreds of acres of land including early paddy crop and houses have been submerged under flood water in Eastern part of Nambol river, after the eastern embankment of the river caved in at around 8 pm last night.
The food-affected areas identified so far are, Nambol Kongkham, Naorem village, Nambol Sabal Leikai and Maibam village.
Around 50 feet long portion of the river embankment collapsed due to increase in water level of the Nambol River as a result of the incessant rainfall for the past few days.
According to reports received here, around 20 paris of early paddy crop and 50 paris of nursery for the coming second crop have been submerged under the food water.
Around 100 families in the flood affected villages have shifted to community halls, school and club buildings.
The report said, the Kongkham LP School, Kongkham Awang Leikai Youth Club and other meira paibi sheds have been occupied by the displaced families.
Villagers today began repairing work of the river embankment after the irrigation and flood control department (IFCD) refused to provide assistance.
Due to absence of flood fighting material.
However latter, IFCDE flood fighting staff equipped with 3000 cement bags were pressed into service to assist the villagers.
Two LP schools, one UJB school and two colleges including SK College and L Sanoi College gave been affected by the flood.
It may be mentioned here that the TDC II year examination is beginning tomorrow at the two colleges.
