Mutua Museum renovates a royal gate of Maharaja Gambhir Singh in Bangladesh

Mutua Museum, Keishampat has reportedly renovated a royal gate of Maharaja Gambhir Singh in Bangladesh besides donating ancient Manipuri costumes to the National Museum of that country.
Speaking to news-persons at its Keishampat office today, Mutua Museum director Mutua Bahadur said Maharaja Gambhir Singh endeavoured to develop a palatial complex by clearing a 600 acre jungle at a place then known as Mirza Jungle in Sylhet at around 1824. even though initial construction of the palace, royal gate and a large pond were started along with fencing of some ritual sites the same complex remain in ruins today, said the director adding that excavation works were carried out in the 1980s for such an exercise was impossible before 1971 in erstwhile East Pakistan.
Inspite of Bangladesh gaining independence and having its own legislation for protection of ancient monuments in reality there is no preservation activities, particularly those belonging to the era of Gambhir Singh, initiated by successive Bangladeshi Govts, Mutua Bahadur claimed.

Stating that the renovation works were undertaken since January 2010 with the sole objective of preserving the monuments that will continue to testify settlement of Manipuris in Bangladesh since ages, he also informed that a signboard has also been put in place at the ancient site.
Mutua Bahadur also conveyed that authorities of both India and Bangladesh would be approached to either preserve ancient monuments of Manipuri kings or enable the Mutua Museum to undertake renovation works in Bangladesh.
