Imphal, February 03, 2012:
The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur in a press statement has asked the school authority of the private schools in the state to refrain from making religion and religious books as compulsory in school syllabus.
Condemning such acts committed especially by mission schools, the statement termed the making of religion as a compulsory part of the school syllabus goes against secularism.
In the statement, Maoist said that making religion and religious activities compulsory in the school create a sense of inadaptability among the students who follows other religion.
Moreover such activities will mislead the meaning of secularism in the state.
While warning the school authorities as well as the parents of the students to avoid unwanted situations in mid term, Maoist appealed to the parents of the students to discuss the matter with the school authority before admitting their children and wisely choose schools for them unless they want interruption in their studies.
Clarifying that Maoist is neither a friend nor a foe of any religion, the statement further added that making religion and religious activities compulsory in the schools will mislead the budding pillar of the future.
If any school is found to be indulging in such activities, Maoist will take up certain actions which might affect the academic career of the students, it warned.
