I/E Cdos bust illegal arms hideout

Imphal, February 26 2013:
Along with arresting an arm dealer, Imphal East District Police Commandos have claimed to have busted an illegal arms hideout and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition.
According to a statement issued by Superintendent of Police, Imphal East District Police Kamei Angam Romanus, under his supervision, a team of police commandos arrested the arm smuggler identified as Kshetrimayum Umakanta (44) s/o late Ksh Ibochouba of Singjamei Bheigyapati Leikai on February 24 around 7:45 am and the arms and ammunition were unearthed from a two-wheeler workshop located at Bheigyapati Leikai opposite to Mata Cinema Hall.
The seized items included one country-made single barrel, two pistols, one air pistol and one white colour plastic bottle containing 33 rounds and another white colour plastic bottle filled with gunpowder and four empty cases.
An FIR case has been registered against the arm smuggler and started investigation into the incident, the police officer added.
In an unrelated incident, a combined team of Imphal East District Police Commandos and 30 Assam Rifles arrested three hardcore members of the banned KCP-MTF from Wangkhei Ayangpalli area during a search operation around 8.20 am yesterday, the statement further said.
The statement identified the arrested trio as Ningthoujam Gogonbihari (25) s/o late N Toicha of Wangkhei Lourembam Leikai, Leimapokpam Boby alias Sana (35) s/o L Achouba of Thambalkhong Lisham Leirak and Lisham Abung alias Sanatomba (21) s/o L Thoibi of Thambalkhong Lisham Leirak.
It is said all three of them are working under the command of one Singajit of KCP-MTF and one demand letter of the outfit and two mobile handsets have been recovered from their possession.
The SP said that all three of them are involved in several extortion and arm hauling cases.
