Imphal, April 15 2012:
All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) would be observing the 32nd Realisation Day on April 17 at Pishum Chingamacha along with offering of floral tributes at the complex of the martyred students atop Chinga Macha.
Speaking to media persons in this connection at the head office of AMSU at DM College campus today, Ningthoujam Dipanjit, General Secretary of AMSU, said that the student body has been observing Realisation Day in remembrance of the selfless students who sacrificed their lives fighting against the influx of migrants in the state.
The influx of migrants to Manipur has increased manifolds but the state government is still not taking up any measures to control the influx of these migrants, he lamented.
Dipanjit further informed that the public meeting would be held on the occasion and it would take a resolution on re-imposition of Inner Line Permit in Manipur to put a check on influx of outsiders.
He pointed out that there is no place in Manipur where outsiders have not settled.
In 2001, the number of outsiders in the state was 30 percent of the total population of the state.
According to the census report of 2011, the population of the state was 27,21,156 .
However, the state government has still not made available to the general public about the official report on the population of outsiders in the state.
This is very unfortunate.
If the influx of outsiders is not controlled at the earliest, their population would soon exceed the population of the indigenous people.
By then, it would be very difficult to ascertain the fate of the Manipuris.
It is time the people of the state discuss the matter seriously, Dipanjit said.
President of AMSU Th Suresh was also present during the press conference.
