CI Ops stepped up to counter poll related violence by UGs: DGP

The Para military forces, Army and State Police Commandos deployed in the state has been kept on high alert and Counter Insurgency Operations have been strengthened to counter the attacks made to the Congress candidates and workers by CorCom, said DGP, Ratnakar Baral.
In an exclusively interview with the Hueiyen Lanpao, DGP Ratnakar Baral said that the Coordination Committee (CorCom) formed by the 7 UG groups of the state, KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (PRO), RPF, UNLF and UPPK have targeted the Congress candidates and its workers by lobbying bombs at various places.
In order to counter these, the Central Para military forces, Army and State Police Commandos have fanned out to various places of the state and are conducting frisking and checking.
At the same time counter insurgency operations have also been stepped up.
DGP further said that uptill now there have been 40 cases of bombs being hurled at different places.
The police department has also taken up various other steps to curb the disturbances from UG groups of the state.
Almost all the Congress candidates and workers who have been threatened with bombs and gun attack have been provided security.
He further added that 350 companies of security forces have been deployed for the upcoming polls.
Uptill now 210 companies of security forces have already arrived in the state.
Among these companies of security forces, 180 companies will be deployed in the plains and 170 companies in the Hills.
The companies of security forces which are to be deployed in the state include CRPF, BSF, ITBF, RPF, Arunachal Pradesh Force, Assam Police, Mizoram Police, Tripura Armed Police and Jharkhand Armed Police.
The AR and Army personnel deployed in the state has also been asked to help in countering the activities of the UGs for a free and fair election, he said.
He also pointed out that around 6 UG cadres have been killed in the CI operations carried out by the security forces and some of them who were involved in the lobbying of bombs and gun attacks to Congress workers have been arrested.
When asked about the cry of the family members of those killed in the encounter, saying that the killed persons are civilians, DGP, Ratnakar Baral said that the persons killed by security forces in the course of the CI operations are all UG cadres and there is enough evidence to prove that.
He further charged the UG groups involved in attacking the Congress candidates and their workers as acting in violation of the people's voting right.
These UG groups no longer seem to have any ideology.
He also appealed to the general public to help the police in curbing the attacks made by the UG groups to the Congress candidates and workers.
A police control room has also been opened at 1st MR for people to inform on the happenings of any anti social activities.
