Winner of Gwangju Prize for Human Rights and Rabindranath Tagore Peace Prize Irom Chanu Sharmila has donated a sum of Rs.four lakh to the International Committee of Red Cross Society today.
A cheque of Punjab National Bank duly signed by Sharmila in the name of the "International Committee of Red Cross Society" with the amount of Rs.four lakh was handed over to a member of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) at the makeshift camp of Sharmila Kanba Lup located at Porompat near JNIMS Hospital here at around 4.30 pm before she was re-arrested by Manipur Police on charge of attempting to commit suicide.

Soon after handing over the cheque to the AMWJU member, a team of Porompat Police came to arrest Sharmila.
However, a large number of women present at the camp prevented the police from arresting her.
Reinforcement of police force was then called in to control the women agitators.
Finally, the police managed to arrest Sharmila and produce her before the Duty Magistrate later in the evening.
She has been remanded to judicial custody.
Notably, Sharmila's re-arrest coincided with her 42nd birthday today.
The members of Sharmila Kanba Lup presented her simple gifts for her birthday, but there was no smile on her face.
Her never-dying spirit and longing for the repeal of AFSPA could be understood well by people from her facial expression.
Many hailed Sharmila not only as human rights activist, but also as a compassionate woman who wants to do good things for the mankind by making donations to international organizations like the Red Cross Society from the prize money she has received from various national and international organizations.
