Nets removed

Fifteen nylon nets and 25 other varieties of nets set by hunters to trap migratory water birds like Ruddy Shelduck (Nganu Thanggong) at Tangjeng Khunou Lamyai Pat were removed by a team of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC) and Bio-diversity Management Committee (BDC), Tangjeng, today, a statement informed.
The team was led by Honorary District Wildlife Warden of Thoubal district and BDC president Moirangthem Oken Meitei.
The team also spread awareness in the area on the need to save wild animals including migratory birds.
Ruddy Shelduck and other migratory water birds were sighted in Tangjeng after a gap of some years.
Stating that relentless hunting could drive away the migratory birds from the State, UWLPC, in the statement, appealed to the masses to stop hunting of wild animals and birds.
