THE SILVER jubilee celebration of the Monsang Women Union commenced today at Liwa Sarei village, Chandel district under the theme "Excel with Culture".
Outer Manipur MP Manicharenamei graced the opening function as chief guest.
President, Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation, Ng Gilbert presided over the function.
Villagers from adjoining villages Liwa Changning, Heibunglok, Liwa Khullen, Zakou Bazar, Zakou and Monsang Pantha participated the opening ceremony today.
In his speech Mani Charanamei said that the women society in the state is still in a backward condition.
They are leading a life of misery inside the wall of a house.
Many political parties of the state talked about giving equal share and right to the women.
But none are doing anything to keep their word.
He said that women should be included in nation building and decision making stages.
Including them in economic planning and other activities will help in all round development of the state.
He further said that there are more than 200 tribes in North East India.
Some of them are likely to become extinct.
Peoples of different communities should co-operate and help with each other for peaceful and harmonious co-existence.
As part of the celebration, different communities displayed their cultural dances and songs.
