UNC calls off 96 hrs total bandh

Imphal, August 20, 2012:
United Naga Council (UNC) has called off its proposed 96 hours total bandh in Naga areas in Manipur from the midnight of 20th August, 2012 in protest against alleged lack of sincerity and political will on the part of the GoI and GoM to carry forward the democratic process of dialogue on the demand for an alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
Announcing this in a statement, a statement issued by Publicity Wing of UNC said that the decision to call off the bandh was taken in an emergency meeting to consider the communication received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (GoI) in the afternoon of 20th August, 2012 wherein it was informed that the next round of tripartite talk of the GoI, the Government of Manipur(GoM) and the UNC would be held at Delhi on the suggested date of 29 & 30 0r 31st August, 2012 as per the convenience of the UNC.
The UNC team will be participating in the 4th round of tripartite talk at Delhi which is being proposed for the 31st August, 2012, the statement informed, while soliciting the prayer support of the all churches and the general Naga public for the success of the talk.
