World Kidney Day observed

The World Kidney Day was observed at Sky Hospital here today.
Experts speaking at the function said that people suffering from diabetes and hypertension face greater risks of kidney infection.
By keeping blood sugar level and blood pressure under check, one can keep away many deadly kidney problems.
Under the initiative of the International Society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundation, the second Thursday of March is being observed as World Kidney Day since 2006 .
By the sideline of the World Kidney Day, Liver Function Test, diabetes detection test and blood pressure check-up were conducted on 94 people free of cost.
The observance was graced by M Lakshmikumar of the Manipur State Co-operative Bank and Sky Hospital and Research Centre Chairman Dr M Shyamkishore as chief guest and president respectively.
Dr Shyamkishore said that people suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure are at greater risk of getting infected by chronic kidney problems, and this is one major cause for ultimate kidney failure.
People who used to take pain killer tablets without prescription from doctor are also prone to kidney infections even if their blood sugar level as well blood pressure are normal.
Highlighting the co-relation between heart and kidney, Dr Shyamkishore stated that heart failure often leads to kidney failure.
He said that World Kidney Day was being observed to detect possible causes of kidney infections for early treatment.
Nephrologist Dr Saratchand emphasised on the importance of regular exercise and physical activities in order to keep kidney healthy.
In order to keep oneself away from kidney problems, one should maintain one's body weight and stay away from tobacco products.
Lethargy, bleeding during urination, indigestion, swelling on the face etc are some common symptoms of kidney infection, Dr Shyamkumar said.
On the occasion of the World Kidney Day, the organisers presented fresh fruits to indoor patients of the hospital.
