9 caught for attempt to foil ILP rally

Kakching, August 10, 2014: Joining the statewide movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur to check the influx of outsiders into the state, hundreds of residents of Keirenbikhok in Thoubal district under the aegis of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) staged a massive torch rally on Saturday night.

On its way back to Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai at around 10.30 pm, about 15 persons who came on a flag post vehicle bearing registration no.MN-05A 4345 (White Scorpio) reportedly attempted to foil the rally.

The owner of the vehicle is said to be one Khoinaijam Dijen Singh, who is also the Pradhan of Samaram.

As expressed by a rally participant, the rally kicked off around 8:30 pm yesterday from Laikol Mamang of Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai and went up to the adjoining areas between Salungpham and Heirok, and also the adjoining places between Wangbal and Uyan before coming back to Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai.

As the rallyists were on their way back to Kairembikhok Mayai Leikai around 10.30 pm, 15 persons who came in the flag post White Scorpio vehicle started thrashing the rallyists without saying any words, she narrated.

After a brief altercation with the perpetrators, the rally participants captured 9 of them who were in the age group of 22 to 24 years.

Those apprehended by the rallyists have been identified as Khoinaijam Bhomeshwor s/o Kh.

Dijen Singh; Ningthoujam Bungo Singh s/o N.Rajen Singh; Laishram Nanao Singh s/o L.Deben Singh; Longjam Suranjit Singh s/o L.Shyamkesho Singh; Ningthoujam Santosh Singh s/o N.Helen Singh; Sagolshem Rajkumar Singh; Wahengbam Arun Singh s/o W.Babuchou Singh; Chongtham Ranjan Singh and Ningthoujam Amujou Singh s/o N.Sanaton, all belonging to Samaram Mayai Leikai.

Although the incident was reported to Thoubal Police station in time, the police did not turn up, the woman alleged.

With the intervention of Thoubal district committee of JCILPS at around 12.30 midnight, the young culprits were handed over to their respective parents and family elders after obtaining written statements of apology.

According to local people of the area, the incident would further be discussed in presence of Committee members, media and the local people.

They would declare the vehicle owner and those involved in the crime as enemies of the people.
