Leishiyo seeks help from fellow MLAs

Imphal, July 01 2022: Saying that his home Constituency Phungyar is too big for distribution of funds and development works, MLA Leishiyo Keishing has sought help from fellow MLAs, particularly those elected from valley Assembly segments.

The MLA made a direct assessment of the works being undertaken at Phungyar divisional headquarters under the State Government's action plan for 100 days on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons during the inspection tour, Leishiyo appealed to the MLAs elected from the valley districts to share a small percentage of their MLA Local Area Development Funds with at least one or two village(s) of Phungyar AC for initiating development works.

"I alone cannot look after all the needs of each and every village for Phungyar AC is too big.

The problem could have been lighter had there been two MLAs but it requires a lengthy process including delimitation", he said.

He then appealed to the MLAs of the valley districts whose Assembly Constituencies are much smaller although they have sizeable electorate to help Phungyar AC with their MLA Local Area Development Funds or other funds.

Each MLA is entitled to Local Area Development Fund of Rs 2 crore but the same amount is only enough for construction of just two Kms of road in the hill districts, Leishiyo said.

He expressed keen desire for the Government to either raise the MLA Local Area Development Fund or sanction a special package for bigger Assembly Constituencies.

Phungyar sub-divisional headquarters is one of the oldest settlements and it was touted to be Kamjong district headquarters but Kamjong was selected as the district headquarters following some contentions over the location of Phungyar, he said.

Many infrastructure have been already developed at Phungyar sub-divisional headquarters and most of the facilities which it should have are already there, he claimed.

However, many of these infrastructure and facilities have now fallen into bad shape.

The police station building requires repairing and the SDO office needs to be streamlined.

The bank has not been functioning properly due to shortage of staff.

There are many other offices but little staff, the MLA lamented while urging for deployment of adequate staff in each and every office at the earliest.

Even though Kasom Khullen road, other roads leading to the district headquarters and block headquarters have improved remarkably, there is a need to black-top roads which lead to villages from the main roads, the MLA said.

While repairing of NH 102A which passes through Phungyar has been completed, efforts are on to repair/construct Namli road as well as Kamjong-Huimin Thana road, he added.
